A Personal Invitation
Hello! My name is Lisa Sui, a PsyD student from Azusa Pacific University. I hope to show anyone interested that SGVPA is here to cater to your needs, curiosities, and growth-oriented mindset.
When I first started my PsyD program, I had no clue about how psychological associations served students and was hesitant to be involved due to feeling overwhelmed by all the student and training obligations. However, with the support of other students like Thomas Zhong, I was quickly shown the positive impact of being involved.
I have learned so much from case consultations with psychologists, asking questions on how to best approach therapy with my clients, or asking for guidance on who to further connect with.
Being a student representative came along organically, with the support of the Past President, Dr. Wayne Kao - he advocated for students to share our voice and express our interests so that SGVPA can support us and scaffold us in our academic, professional, and clinical growth. He and the SGVPA board advocated for me to receive a sponsorship to attend the 2024 CPA Convention (my reflections were shared in the January 2025 SGVPA Newsletter). I am truly grateful and honored to be SGVPA’s student representative.
