More UpdatesMessage from the President Hello everyone, As I step in as President of a SGVPA, as the first person of color to hold this position, I recognize that I hold a unique position during a rather unique time in our history. Navigating an organization during a pandemic, social and political unrest, and escalating racial and cultural tensions places me in a rather humbling position. How can I be a good president when there is so much to address? In light of the attack on the U.S. Capital, I realize that the way that we can get through these tough times together lies in a simple, but often ignored idea. Community In the coming year, I hope to build our community, not only as mental health professionals, but as colleagues and friends. If 2020 has taught me anything, it is that we need community more than ever. Our community will be a safe space for all. It will not only be a space to share ideas, but a place to support each other. If you are facing discrimination, we will be here to fight with and for you. If you are struggling to find your voice, we will offer you a space to share it. If you are succeeding in an endeavor, we will be here to celebrate with you. This is how we will make 2021 better than 2020. This is how we will heal. My intention is to make SGVPA a model for the rest of the world. The only way this will happen is by moving together. For those who have already joined me, thank you. For those who plan to, welcome. Wayne Kao, PsyD. President, San Gabriel Psychological Association
