Dr. Anne Simpson
After first receiving certification in Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, I earned a Ph.D. in Psychoanalysis from the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. I see adult individuals and couples in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy at my private office in Pasadena.
My involvement as a psychoanalytic professional includes holding the position of Chair of the Extension Division and member of the Board of Directors of the New Center for Psychoanalysis. Dedicated to helping train new generations of analysts and therapists, I am a member of the faculty of the New Center for Psychoanalysis as well as Newport Psychoanalytic Institute, and I supervise at Rose City Counseling Center in Pasadena. My current professional affiliations include memberships in the American Psychoanalytic and International Psychoanalytic Associations. I am registered with the Medical Board of California under #RP 209, which has credentialed me as a psychoanalyst.
I have a second Ph.D. in English literature. My love of fiction and poetry developed early in my life, when I first realized how profoundly creative writers can be attuned to the world of emotions and capture these in words. My most recent book, "Territories of the Psyche: The Fiction of Jean Rhys" (published by Palgrave Macmillan), explores the works of a modern novelist from the perspective of diverse psychoanalytic theories.
Because of my own background, I feel that we all bring to our lives numerous potentials. My approach as a psychoanalyst is intersubjective and relational, and I work collaboratively with my patients to help them find within themselves greater freedom of choice and possibility.
